• First check your mattress for any signs that moisture/mold has any signs of moisture. First check the existing cover carefully for any signs of tearing, especially along the seams and along the zippers. If there are any visible tears or holes or any imperfections in the zippers, it is time to replace it. The zippers are located along the outside edges.
• Be aware of any spills. Some covers are made of fluid resistant (canvas) and even fluid repellent (leather) materials. Even these can allow moisture from spills. Covers made of fabric are also magnets for spills. Remember that any spill can either ruin or mar the beauty of your cover and weaken the material, allowing ambient moisture to affect your mattress.
• Tired of being bland? Futon mattress covers come in a wide variety of patterns and materials. Easy to change from one cover to another you can switch covers to match the occasion.  It can be time for a change when you are having a party or guests over or simply because you are tired of looking at the mattress or the old pattern.

Whats the best way to clean a futon mattress?!?

Bought a futon from someone off craigslist...it's needs cleaning. The cover zippers but the inside is not contained so I can not take it off (wth! lol) anywho....whats the best way to clean this thing so I feel good about sitting and laying on it?!

If you have access to a steam cleaner (rent one at a hardware store) that has an upholstery attachment, I would suggest adding some pine sol to the water, and don't soak it or it will never dry. Dry it in the sun if possible.
