How I can repair my weathered oak garden furniture?

I bought some beautiful oak garden furniture chucky last year, however, left untreated through some harsh weather conditions. Now it is cracked, splitting, and very pale on the sides exposed. The color of the wood has changed completely, and I would like to restore the natural wood color as much as possible. I do not really want to varnish or covered timber. As I know absolutely nothing about caring for the wood, I was wondering if someone could tell me step by step exactly what I need to do to fix it! Is it better to sand down and then use a wood oil?
