The weathervane is most often thought of as a metal rooster on the top of a barn that points in the direction of the blowing wind. That is a weathervane point in the direction of the origin of the wind. A compass rose is fixed below the rooster and points in the direction of the eight cardinal points of the earth. North, South, East, West and the four in betweens. Once long ago, it was believed that the winds were gods and in that ancient time, flags were used to tell archers the direction of the going wind. In Luke 22:34 at the last supper, Christ prophecies that Peter will deny he is a follower or even knows who Jesus is exactly three times before the rooster will crow, and as he denies for the third time that night, the rooster crows. The Holy Roman Empire of the church passed this legacy onward and influenced culture the world over. Even the metal working Vikings would craft weathervanes of roosters, both for spiritual as well as artistic reasons.

Im thinking about investing in a business. Its soap that is hand crafted and painted to look exactly like fruit. I was really surprised when i mom bought it...lol so i was thinking if my mom bought it then it must be a good product. Im thinking about staring online first....i work at the airport so instead of having the US as my consumers i have the whole world i can pass cards too. Im thinking i make baskets and sell them for a reasonable price. Before you look to investing in this business venture, you need to analyze a few things.

1) What will be your overhead costs. [i.e. what are the fixed costs you will have regardless of whether you sell something or not]

2) What are your variable costs. [i.e. what are your costs in selling the product? Taxes, fees, etc.]

3) What marketing campaign will you use? How will you attract the attention of your clients?

Personally, see if you can get a small pilot sample [perhaps 30 bars of soap]. Take this pilot sample and do a mock run of your business. Literally try to sell it to your customers at the airport. Also try it online [through eBay for now].

While you are doing this, gauge the market sentiment. Do you sell your product quickly? What price makes customers buy the product? How much of the product does an average customer want to buy? Import all this data into Excel to run some numbers and you will have some rough numbers and a general idea to work with. Essentially you will have an answer to the feasibility of this endeavor.

But, before you start this project, see where else you can put your money. Can you invest your money into a money market fund that would give you a more secure form of payment? Can you invest your money in a different avenue? Can you actually live without the money you will invest in this business? You have to always consider the situation where you will lose everything. If that happens will you be financially broken or will you still be fine?
