standard height of dining room table & kitchen island?

what are the standard height of dining room tables - chairs and kitchen island ?? what is the dimensions of usual island for a large kitchen ??

I am having made in tropical wood and want the correct heights.what would be an ideal top for island - all the kitchen cabinet tops are made of stainless steel but wife wants something different for island.

Standard chair height is a comfortable 18 inches, the ususal kitchen table is 29 inches high and the island is 35 inches high. These are only heights, as far as depth goes, a person cant necessarily reach more than 3 feet across a counter or island . An usually luxurious table would be 42 across. In length, a table would be about 60 inches long, an island in a large kitchen could be even longer. This is just vague,thinking-out-loud stuff. Hope this gives you something to work with. What color livingroom furniture should i buy?

So we have an open downstairs where all the rooms basically connect and are open. The dining room as all black furniture (diningroom table, chairs, and hutch) and the kitchen cabinets are an medium oak color that came with the house. Theres a little kitchen nook where we have 2 black metal stools on the kitchen island and a small round glass table with black metal for the chairs and table itself. The living room we are getting new furniture a lighter tan color couch and we want a new entertainment center and end tables and coffee table but I dont know what color wood. I dont want the same color as the kitchen cabinets.. and im not sure if I should stick to black even tho that would be the best matching option. I just feel like it would all be too much black. Please let me know your opinion

You don't want to mix to many different wood tones or the house will feel choppy. You want your house to flow from room to room esp. since you have an open concept. Black is probably your best bet. If your new furniture is a light tan then it will help break up the black. Also if you have light colored walls that helps too. It's nice to keep furniture in the same color family so that it compliments each other and flows well.

You can also add some light colored accessories, pillows, curtains, art work. This will help lighten the room if you feel like the black furniture will darken it. Having light and dark colors in a room helps them "play" off each other in the whole design scheme.
