Outdoor Cushions Guide
Choosing furnishings for any room can be a major decision, however, when deciding on furnishings for an outdoor room they must not only be comfortable and stylish but have the ability to stand up to the weather.
Create a casual look by arranging a pile of outdoor cushions of various colours and textures around a fire pit or outdoor fire pace.
When choosing outdoor cushions don't hold back, the more the merrier!
Adding bold fruity colours (orange, yellow, citrus green) will help overcome the winter blues.
When choosing colours, consider how they will look in both natural sunlight as well as under the evening lighting.
Graphic outdoor cushions could create a sensational theme, such designs as sunflowers and fruits etc.
Also consider what mood the colour scheme conveys, colours such as beige, oranges and pinks are considered warming tones, whereas tones such as blue, green and silvers create a calming effect. Black and white create a very dramatic feel, whereas all white creates a striking modern look.
A number of factors must be considered prior to purchasing outdoor cushions.
Many people who purchase outdoor furniture simply assume that the furniture can stand up to all conditions.
When purchasing outdoor cushions one must not simply assume they will tolerate all conditions.
One must consider the weather conditions that the item will go through and whether or not the cushion will handle that.
Sun Damage
A major factor to be considered with regard to outdoor cushions.
The effect of the sun on outdoor cushions can be extreme, both the colour and composition can be affected.
Cushions that receive a lot of sun will experience fading from the sun, a cushion in direct sunlight can begin to fade within a few months.
To stop fading the cushions may be placed under shade where they do not receive direct sunlight.
Alternatively cushions created with UV protection could be used, this extra protection will help the cushions retain their colour in all sun conditions.
Moisture
Another factor to consider with regard to outdoor cushions is what type of moisture/mildew threat they are facing.
In areas of high humidity there is a risk of mold and mildew.
As rain falls and doesn't evaporate quickly, it will remain inside your cushions, the longer the moisture remains there the greater the risk of mildew forming.
Therefore when considering outdoor cushions in high humidity climates mold and mildew resistant materials should be considered.
A polyester stuffing is advised for outdoor cushions as polyester is mold and bug resistant, it also dries quickly and will not mold if it stays wet for an extended time.
Your outdoor cushions will take a considerable beating, particularly when entertaining guests or while enjoying regular BBQ's.
Therefore, outdoor cushions should not only be weather resistant but stain resistant also, making it easier to clean off dirt and food stains.
Whether simply adding some character to some outdoor furniture or creating an outdoor oasis, this can be done by integrating a selection of stylish outdoor cushions.
The cushions will add atmosphere and comfort to your outdoor area.

Outdoor Cushion Q&A
Outdoor Swing?
A couple years ago I bought a outdoor cushioned swing that sits about 3 and it folds out into a bed its like a hammock, I got it from WalMart and they dont have them anymore. Anyone know a site where I can find this?
The first link is an example showing the type of swing you may be looking for. The second link has more sites where you may be able to find exactly what you are looking for.
I would recommend that when you find the right one to write the manufacturer name, model number, telephone number including fax number down and take it to a local garden center that sells outdoor furniture. They may be able to order it for you.
What material do I make outdoor cushions out of?
I just bought an old patio swing and I REALLY need to make new cushions for it. Do I have to use special fabric and filling because they're going to be used outside?
Fiberfill for cushions are best because it dries out faster than foam.Any pretty material with a tight weave will work, even percale pillow cases.I recycle everything so yes you can.If you want It more like what is being sold now a light weight canvas fabric can be bought for around $7 a yard.No anything that is sturdy even demuin can be used. That in mind you will want something that dries fast after the rain storm if its to be left outside all the time.
