You can find traditionally styled wrought iron benches that offer a quaint charm to your garden or patio. However, if you select a wrought iron bench you will need to choose your bench location carefully. Wrought iron is an extremely heavy metal and it won’t be easy to move it to a new location if you change your mind later. Wrought iron also rusts easily if not well maintained. You will need to keep it clean and apply a wax protector annually.

Aluminum is another type of metal bench.  Aluminum is much lighter weight than wrought iron. Benches made of aluminum can generally handle both rough handling and harsh weather and is typically rust-resistant. You will find many aluminum benches that look very utilitarian; however, with a little effort you can also find more stylish models.

Plastic: Similarly to wood, there are vast differences in the quality of material and construction of plastic benches. There are, of course, very cheap plastic benches available on the market. Cheap plastic benches tend to be poorly made, flimsy, and crack easily or warp under extended exposure to inclement weather. But fortunately there are also new synthetic materials available that make very attractive, durable, and affordable outdoor furniture.

Some materials that are worthwhile options to consider in plastic furniture are benches made of acrylics or PVC.  Another option that is very popular is resin furniture. This material is weather-resistant and comes in many stylish designs. Resin doesn’t feel or look like plastic. It is often woven into a wicker style furniture design.

No matter which material you decide on for your patio furniture, your outdoor patio benches should be comfortable to sit on. When considering a bench for purchase, spend a few minutes sitting on it to be sure it will be comfortable for you. Sometimes a bench may look great but have a straight back or other design elements that make it uncomfortable to sit on. Look for benches that feature a curved seat for the most comfortable seating. Also, remember unlike plastic and wood benches, metal benches will be cold to sit on during the colder months of the year.

how to secure deck bench into concrete patio?

we have a concrete patio with a roof. we would like to install deck rails to enclose the whole thing. this will be simple since we can attach them to the roof support poles. But, we would like to build in deck benches to the rails around the patio. Shouldn't there be some more security to the benches then other than the rails being attached to the roof poles/house? should we attach the deck benches into the concrete patio at certain points? how would we do that?

Contact your local hardware store etc.. You can use concrete anchors to secure them to the concrete patio. They are fairly easy to install.

I know I'm putting too much thought into this...?

So...

Last week I bought a really nice patio table. I brought it home and my hubby told me that my MIL was planning on bringing me her mom's patio table for my birthday. (I planned to return the one I bought).

I've never seen the table, but I've heard good things about it - so I called her to thank her - and she said, "the one with the bench right?"

So, I found out it doesn't even have chairs - just attached benches like a commercial one...

I seriously think it looks like this:

Now I'm worried she'll go through a lot of trouble and I won't like it. Urg. Should I just tell it would be too much trouble? She said it would be a hassle for her to load it and stuff. I just don't want to hurt her feelings.

I am a great believer in honesty being the best policy - especially if it's something you have to live with, depending on how often you see each other.

You don't have to be rude, and explain that you don't want to hurt her feelings but explain how you feel and what you would really like.

You will probably find that she would much more appreciate you being honest and that she was able to give you something you really want - make some suggestions!
