Letting your plans for new kitchen cabinets slide
CHICAGO, IL …
When it comes to remodeling your kitchen, especially the cabinets, it’s easy to get hung up on looks. Yet you also want your new cabinets to be functional as well. To that end, DirectBuy of Greater Chicago, the leading home improvement and furnishings clubs with direct insider prices, recommend sliding cabinet doors as a functional yet attractive alternative.
“How many times have you hit your head or run into a kitchen cabinet door that somebody left open? Sliding kitchen cabinet doors work in a similar fashion to sliding patio doors—on a grooved run--only on a smaller scale. So if you’re tired of the bumps and bruises, installing beautiful kitchen cabinets with sliding doors instead is a great way to go,” said Jeremy Vest, owner of DirectBuy of DuPage County.
Kitchen cabinetry with sliding door fronts tend to work best in contemporary, modern, or Asian-inspired designs. Clear glass doors present an appealing alternative, giving you the opportunity to display your dinnerware or barware.
Sliding doors are also available in wood cabinets and often provide a clean and/or linear design that can dramatically enhance the appeal of your kitchen.
“Beyond all those benefits, sliding kitchen cabinet doors offer an added bonus in that they nest inside the cabinet when open but don’t take up any additional storage space, added Vest.

patio cabinet Q&A
cockroaches with a baby in the home?
Ok first of all I have a 3 month old baby and we just found out there are cockroaches in our home!
Is it dangerous to have cockroaches with a baby?
We keep our house really clean especially now that we have a baby. But we have a patio and sometimes live the screen door open and there are a lot of trash cans around our apartment. We live in the south of CA.
I am so scared of bugs and spiders and creepy crawly things so what do I do?
How do I get rid of them? I only seen one so far on the kitchen cabinet. Should I be alarmed? Are they harmful?
My baby sleeps with his mouth open and im so scared ones going to crawl in his mouth when he's sleeping what do I do about that in the mean time?please help
I'm never heard of the bugs themselves crawling on infants or biting them, usually they see a human being or animal and avoid them, even when all they're doing is steady breathing.
Roaches, however, are extremely filthy creatures and they could crawl into the cabinets and all over the bottles, spoons, diapers, etc
I live in Southern GA in military housing so my house is connected to my neighbors and so on. We have roaches bad around here.
I keep the house spotless also, cleaning literally everyday, however there are large cracks/gaps under our doors where all sorts of fun critters get in (we've been having a lot of issues with these centipedes lately).
I contacted our housing office (landlord) and they sent someone over to bug spray, this helped big time on keeping them out! I spent the following few days finding dead roaches everywhere, but since then I haven't seen one. I would recommend speaking with your landlord and seeing if they have a connection with a bug spray company or if they allow you to call someone/do it yourself.
Also, whenever you see one, after you've gotten rid of it, go back and thoroughly clean the area you saw it in, try and trace it back to the point of entry if you can. Roaches leave pheromones that will attract more roaches to the area.
Roaches can also climb up through piping in the apartment/house, so pour some bleach or draino down there followed by some nice, hot water to kill any in there and discourage others from coming up.
If you have cracks, gaps, etc around your doors or windows, see if you can close them up yourself with some paint or caulk.
Keep all food in sealed containers or the fridge. This includes items like flour, put it into some plastic tupperware.
Take your trash out regularly and don't leave dirty dishes around. After you have dinner, don't just drop them into the sink and leave them be to wait til morning, at least rinse them off well first.
The deal with roaches and apartments (or adjoined houses) is that you could be the cleanest person in the world, but if your neighbor is a slob, you'll continue to get them.
refinishing in the rain?
I decided to buy a "barewood" cabinet to hold my aquarium. I was using a stain/polyurethane combo product to refinish it on my screened in patio until >>>>BOOM<<<< a giant tropical storm has taken over Tampa Bay for the last few days.
I have pulled the piece inside (it has 2 dried coats already) to prevent warping, but I can see some brush marks that I couldn't see before. The more i look the more critical I get!
Is there a way to stain/paint over or a sanding technique to reduce their appearance? I do not want to have to start over, but I would love any other advice!!
You could use 0000 steal wool to scuff the offending areas and lightly hitting the rest, If your color is fine just finish with one final coat of clear.
