What makes pine patio furniture such an excellent choice for any outdoor area is that the pine wood used to make this type of furniture is a top quality material that has many benefits compared to other materials. One, even though it is more of a soft wood, it is still pretty heavy and very durable, which means that it will hold up under tough conditions and is very resistant to wearing down. Two, not only is it unlikely to wear down or get damaged, but it is also resistant to bugs and rotting from any kind of exposure to water or rain, which not only makes it an ideal material for building furniture, but, an excellent choice for building other items as well like decks, gazebos, and even entire marinas. So, if it is good enough as a material to build an entire building, than it really is a top notch material for furnishing that will sit on your deck or patio. Three, furniture made out of pine requires almost no maintenance and the only thing that you will have to do from year to year is to apply a little soap and water to clean it. Other than that, it needs no attention at all. And four, furniture made out of pine is extremely beautiful and it can come in a variety of finishes, which gives you options as how you want your space to look. Some of the different finishes include: natural, where the wood keeps its natural tone; pristine, where the wood is painted a certain deep color; distressed, where the wood is painted and then sanded so the wood can show through in spots; and washed, where the wood is painted and then sanded so the wood shows through on the entire piece of furniture. Each finish is very beautiful and is a great way to improve on the look of your outdoor space.

Patio Furniture Deep Q&A
Can I refinish a butcher block table and chairs to use on decking in humiditiy of Florida weather?
I have a wood-butcher block table and chairs that I would like to use on our covered patio deck. Where is would be place is under deep covering, so it should not get rain unless a severe storm, as in high winds type. But, in Florida it is very humid, so I am wondering if I could do this. Like I said, it is solid wood. It is the butcher block table style. It is finished already. Do I sand it and then repaint/treat it? I have never treated inside furniture to go outside, so I am wondering if I could do this.
Thank you,
Brenda - Orlando Florida
I'm not a professional but I am a hobbyist in woodworking. I've never used butcher block either so consider my similar experience. I live in Florida on the Panhandle. I usually use exterior plywood or sometimes even interior wood for tables and benches that go inside my open sided carport. Yeah, that humidity will get ya. Whatever wood I use, I sand it to my satisfaction, then I coat it with Velspar Interior/exterior eurothane. This brings out the fibers of the wood and makes it rough again, but it seals it somewhat. Then I use a fine or medium sand paper and sand and coat again. Now it's looking pretty good. One more very light sanding and another coat of eurothane. By now it's sealed very well and feels and looks like a sheet of glass laying over the wood. I made my benches five years ago Just this summer I re-coated the bench tops by sanding again and sealing again only once. If not for all the leaks in my carport roof, I probably wouldn't have had to do this. Hope it helps. Good luck. Almost forgot. Eurothane will give a very slight yellowish tint, but you may not even notice it. I'm a female too. Power to women woodworkers!
