Memphis, Tennessee (January 27, 2010) - Chef Ben Vaughn, the owner and chef at Grace Restaurant in Memphis, celebrated at a Grand Opening party on Tuesday, January 26th, 2010. The special menu featured creations from Chef Ben Vaughn as well as Chef Wally Joe, Erling Jensen, Jason Severs, and Reni Alfonso.

According to Chef Ben Vaughn's Facebook page for Grace Restaurant, the eatery focuses on aprogressive, minimalist Southern cuisine, with French techniques. Grace delivers fresh ingredients, and bold creativity.a Soft lighting in a cozy dining room is paired with a welcoming salon area. Local art and an outdoors terrace set the stage for a menu featuring Southern food cooked with French techniques. A recent menu at Grace Restaurant included Apalachicola oysters stuffed with ciabatta and Roquefort cheese. Other items offered by Chef Ben Vaughn have included basil ice cream, crawfish toast, scallop pappardella, rack of lamb, oysters, and halibut and grits.

Vaughn's influences are derived from the diverse cuisine of South Florida. Chef Ben Vaughn was voted as one of the top 5 aBest Chefs in Memphis Tennesseea and tied with Chef Wally Joe for the 2nd Place Silver winner. Chef Ben Vaughn most recently received praise during his time at the Memphis, Tennessee award winning River Oaks Restaurant as chef and partner.

Chef Ben Vaughn was about eight years old; the first time he recalls cooking. The menu? Pancakes. Later, a long time family friend would take him around to Greek diners and restaurants in South Florida. aHe owned a few different ones and he would swing me back through the kitchens and I'd get to see all the stuff going on behind the scenes.a

The decision to become a chef was a natural one. According to Chef Ben Vaughn, he was about 15 years old when he decided to cook for a living. aIt was definitely a drive. It was something I wanted to do.a Chef Ben Vaughn's first job was in Florida at a well-known restaurant called Mario's. He was sixteen years old. Later, he worked with award winning Mark Militello as well as the Food Network's Sara Moulton.

Chef Ben Vaughn has started a blog at www.gracememphis.com and the restaurant's Facebook page has over 1200 fans in just a few short months. Grace Restaurant is open six days a week and closed on Sundays. Chef Ben Vaughn says the Memphis, Tennessee restaurant will have special menus each week.

aIt's going to be a local thing, very approachable, kind of a French technique meets Southern ingredients thing,a Chef Ben Vaughn concludes. aWe just want to have a good time. It's a platform for me to cook, really. And it'll be a very casual but nice atmosphere.
