These are not always going to be for everyone, of course, but if you spend a lot of time out on your patio, deck, or just in your lawn, this may be something you want to splurge on.

If you have a lot of people over, it is almost a must for entertaining. They come in all types of sets, but most come with a table, chairs, and possible an umbrella. Shop around, as there are great options for all no matter what you want in a set.
If you live where there is a lot of wind and your patio furniture sets are going to be out in the lawn or in an unprotected area, as most of them are, you want something that has some weight to it. This will not always protect things from tipping over and even blowing around, but it does help. The good sets are made with materials like iron, which are heavy and stay put. You do not want something so heavy that you cannot move it around when you need to, but you do want something that is not light weight aluminum in a windy area.
Depending on where you are going to put your patio furniture sets, you should see about an umbrella. Most good sets come with one, but you do not have to get one if you do not need one. If you already have an awning of some type over where you want to put your furniture, you can skip the umbrella. However, if not, you are not going to enjoy sitting out at your set for leisure or for eating without some type of protection from the sun. These can make the difference between sitting outside and enjoying a nice day or roasting in the sun and avoiding your backyard all together.
Think about the materials you want to get on your set as well. Some come with water proof or water resistant padding or cushions. These are great for all weather areas. If your patio furniture sets are going to be out in the open, you want to know your cushions are not going to be ruined. On the other hand, if you have a covered area for your furniture, you can go with whatever material that you want. Most find that getting something resistant to water is a good idea no matter where they are going to use it.
Lastly, if you spend a lot of money on your patio furniture sets, you want to keep them in good shape. Keep an eye out for signs of rust or for bolts and nuts that may come loose. If you can, get a good spray that can help rust-proof your set so that you can enjoy it for a long time to come. Also, some come with interchangeable cushions, so if you ever get sick of what you chose, you can just get new cushions for a whole new look without having to buy a whole new set.
