Tips for SC beach vacation, a friend of the Northerners, to remain calm, but close enough to the activity?

Pleasure is in 2 weeks. Still do not know where to go, only Beach SC. My son lives in Charlette and give me the chance to see him also as he will come to see us for a day or two. We want to stay somewhere kind of quiet, but close enough to the activity that can be easily reached. Murtle beach sounds, let rest, although I'd like to see some of the restaurants and entertainment. I've been doing some research on the Internet, it seems Beaufort is beautiful but cruel Northoners and expensive. Pawleys Island sounded good but a bit expensive. Surfside Beach sounds like maybe you can. We do not have much to spend, but need a beach vacation badly. Anyone have input? I would really appreciate anything I can say and do not have much time. Thanks for any help you give.

Anywhere north of Myrtle Beach is fine. Less busy and enjoyable for everyone.
