Whats the difference between red and white wood pine trees?

Hey for woodshop I need to do an essay on pinewood... So are white pine and red pine trees a specific species of pine tree or are they a category which divides all of the types of pine trees into two groups? I know some species of pine trees are jack pines, douglas fir, and lodgepole pine but are any of these considered "white" or "red" pine wood? thanks.

what sort of wood is pressure treated? when we buy pressure treated lumber, are we buying pine? hemlock? or?

also wondering how to treat the cut ends of pressure treated wood - should we paint on some copper sulphate?

Here in the midwest USA, it's generally SYP (southern yellow pine). It may vary regionally based on indigenous timber.
