A Modern-Retro Bedroom Around Polka Dot Duvet

Creating a retro bedroom can be hip and not outdated.  Think back in the early 60's, 70's or even 80's when the retro style was commonly used.  When you think of retro, you think of hippies with their peace and loving attitude, disco parties and colorful and geometrical designs. Large and colorful floral prints where also considered quite retro in the early 60's. Believe it or not, this style can be brought back to your bedroom but with a modern touch. Geometrical shapes are very popular now in the modern home.  Changing your bedroom from modern to retro or vice-versa, can be easy and affordable.  Many of the modern decor used today have that retro flare. Lets begin with the basics:

When starting to redecorate your bedroom, first choose the right bedding.  Large polka dots is one the most popular retro designs in bedding today. I recommend choosing bright colors like yellow, green, blue and purple, which where commonly used back in the early 70's but has come back better then ever. Once a cool polka dot duvet cover has been chosen, we can move next to the walls. White walls should do the trick and you can also choose a accent wall and color it with one of the bold colors of the duvet cover. Why white walls? White walls will make the bedding stand out with the rest of the retro decor. Dark color walls will not have the same effect. The accent wall would be the wall right behind the bed. We want the wall to be clear of windows. Place round mirrors on this wall or any other geometrical pattern or design.  Using mirrors will make the room look brighter and larger.  Place a shaggy rug next to the bed and a modern lounge chair in the corner of the room.  Place a large and colorful throw pillow on the lounge chair and a couple of decor pillows on the bed.  Finish off the room with some cool lava lamps on each side of the bed. In a kids bedroom, lounge chairs can be replaced with beanbags or inflated chairs and sofas. If polka dot bedding is not your style, then try other geometrical designs or a duvet set with colorful flowers on a white backdrop. Color the accent walls with one of the colors of the flowers.  Peace, love and happiness everyone!

Or is there a way to make it look more like a day-wear
its like just below my knees and its small polka dots. Thanks for all the advice so far

well it depends on the size of the dots. the larger the dots, the more suited the dress is for evening. but if you put a cute cardigan over it like from old navy, and wear flats instead of heels, then you should be able to wear the dress to the office or out and about.
